Kungrad Soda Plant

Kungrad Soda Plant

Situated in the Kungrad district of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, Kungrad Soda Plant is the sole industrial manufacturer of calcined soda ash (sodium carbonate) in Central Asia, developed through a $100 million turnkey engineering and investment contract involving China's CITIC Group. The enterprise forms part of Karakalpakstan’s mineral processing industry, connecting the region’s salt and limestone resources with chemical manufacturing.

The industrial facility is built near the Barsakelmes salt lake deposit and the Jamansay limestone formation, yielding an installed annual capacity of 100,000 tons of dense and light soda ash, as well as refined industrial salt. Its raw material base links mineral extraction with the production of a chemical used across several manufacturing sectors.

By converting local raw materials into high-purity sodium carbonate, the plant supplies domestic float glass factories, detergent formulators, metallurgy plants, and chemical manufacturers, eliminating national reliance on imported soda ash. This supply relationship makes soda ash production relevant to both building materials and everyday consumer goods.
