BYD Uzbekistan Factory

In October 2023, BYD signed an investment agreement with the Ministry of Investment, Industry and Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan, reaffirming its long-term commitment to developing local manufacturing. The company entered the Uzbek market by launching production at the Jizzakh Free Economic Zone in January 2024. The project aligns with Uzbekistan’s strategic priorities in industrial modernization, the adoption of environmentally friendly technologies, and the transition to sustainable mobility.
The core focus of the project is the production of electric and hybrid vehicles powered by new energy sources (NEVs), as well as automotive components under the BYD brand. The agreement provides for the establishment of a full-scale manufacturing cycle, including body welding, painting, and vehicle assembly. The project is being implemented in phases. At the initial stage, annual production is expected to reach approximately 50,000 vehicles, followed by a gradual increase in local content and components localization. By 2027 the plant aims to achieve an annual production capacity of up to 500,000 vehicles.
Within two years, a dedicated automotive manufacturing facility - the BYD Uzbekistan Factory - was constructed in the city of Jizzakh in cooperation with BYD. In June 2024, the plant commenced production of electric vehicles, with initial investments of USD 160 million and an annual capacity of 50,000 vehicles per year. At subsequent stages, with additional investments of USD 300 million and further project expansion, production is expected to increase gradually to 200,000 and ultimately to 500,000 electric vehicles annually.
The launch of the BYD plant facilitates the introduction of advanced manufacturing technologies, the creation of new jobs, and the development of a local automotive supply chain. The project makes a significant contribution to economic diversification, strengthens Uzbekistan’s position in the global market for new energy vehicles, and supports the country’s transition to environmentally sustainable mobility.
