Climate — from dry desert in the South to subtropical in the North (Uzun). The average temperature in January is +3 °C, in July +30 °C. the rainfall varies from 130 mm to 360 mm per year, in the foothills — from 440 mm to 620 mm.
Relief-the Central and southern parts of the region are flat. In the North is the Hissar range, in the West and North-West are its spurs — Baisuntau (4425 m) and Kugitangtau mountains (3139 m), in the East is the Babatag ridge (up to 2290 m), in the South — Amu Darya valley river.
Land resources
The total area is 2009,91 thousand hectares. Of these, irrigated agricultural area is 239.91 thousand hectares, non-irrigated agricultural area is 39.9 thousand hectares, pastures area for livestock is 830.2 thousand hectares.
Water resources
There are 10 rivers in Surkhandarya. The average volume of water resources is about 4270 billion m3. per year. The main rivers are Amu Darya, Surkhandarya and Tupalang.
There are 5 artificial reservoirs in the region with a total displacement of about 1155.8 million m3.
